Voting is now OPEN!

Voting is now open for the first ever BMJ Industry Awards. Professionals from across the builders’ merchants sector are invited to make their voices heard by submitting a vote online at www.bmjindustryawards.co.uk.

In what is a groundbreaking format for industry awards, the winners will be decided solely by the online vote. Merchants are invited to vote for the brands that have boosted their business, while manufacturers are encouraged to show their support for the merchants that stand out from the crowd.

Business manager Max Shannon comments: “We are delighted to be able to hand the power back to the people that make this sector so great, and provide the first transparent awards scheme that is truly reflective of industry opinion.”

Voting will remain open until Monday 13 April, giving the industry plenty of time to champion the brands and businesses that they believe in.

The recipient of the highest number of votes in each category will be revealed as the winners at the BMJ Industry Awards ceremony, taking place on Friday 18 May at The Brewery, London.

As well as high profile awards presentations, the awards luncheon will provide an unmissable afternoon of celebration and networking for everyone involved in the builders’ merchants sector.

Guests will enjoy an exclusive drinks reception, a three course meal with wine, multiple opportunities to network with a room full of potential business connections and an afternoon of entertainment from a household name. More details about this year’s host will be revealed as the event draws closer.

Attending the BMJ Industry Awards ceremony is a time and cost-effective way for businesses to consolidate existing relationships and build new connections, and an opportunity to reward hard-working teams and individuals for their dedication over the past twelve months.

Tickets are in limited supply, so those that wish to be present at the inaugural ceremony are encouraged to secure their tickets early through the secure online booking form available on the BMJ Industry Awards website to avoid disappointment.

Want to be part of it?

Entering the BMJ Industry Awards is quick and easy. Those who wish to put themselves in the running for an Award should submit their company information and supporting documents via the simple online form.

The main intention of the Awards is to support the industry by providing a platform for its voice to be heard, so with that in mind companies are also encouraged to nominate outstanding brands, merchants and individuals who work alongside them.

Merchants, is there a product that flies off the shelves? Manufacturers, is there a merchant makes your product shine? Perhaps there is an outstanding sales representative or customer service person that deserves recognition? If so, make a nomination!

With only one form, companies can submit their own entries as well as shine a spotlight on others that contribute to this great industry.

Entries will close on Friday 23 February, after which time the final decisions will be made by the industry through an online vote.

Bolster the voice of the industry

The ground-breaking format of the BMJ Industry Awards has struck a chord with the industry, and signing up as a sponsor is the perfect way for companies to project their brand to a targeted audience whilst showing support for their endeavours.

Companies are advised to secure their sponsorships early to get maximum exposure, across multiple platforms, in the lead up to the event. Sponsors will also feature heavily at the Awards luncheon, ensuring their brand is present at what is set to be a memorable afternoon of celebration.

Sponsorship packages can be tailored, fitting every need and budget, but are in limited supply. For more information on how to get involved, contact Max Shannon on 01622 699148 or at mshannon@datateam.co.uk.

Celebrating who we are and what we have

Celebrating who we are and what we have

Datateam Business Media, the publisher of Builders Merchants Journal (BMJ), has announced the launch of the BMJ Industry Awards. Designed to champion the voice of the people, this particular awards scheme will be decided entirely by an industry vote.

Linking merchants and manufacturers, BMJ is the UK’s longest running industry title, serving the construction distribution supply chain for nearly 100 years. “In that time, we’ve learned that the most important part of the any industry is the people and the brands that they promote,” says editor-in-chief, Fiona Russell-Horne.

Shining a spotlight on the building industry’s most outstanding people, merchants and brands, this new and unique event will take place in London, next May. “Entries are now open and our aim is to reflect the massive pool of talent we have out there, celebrating the brands, names and businesses that keep the merchant sector thriving,” says Russell-Horne.

How it works

The awards are split into three sections; ‘Brands’, ‘Merchants’ and ‘People’. The ‘Brands’ section covers a range of different sectors; from plumbing to heavy sides, timber to landscaping, kitchens to bathrooms, roofing to heating, there is something for everyone, including a ‘best distributor’ award.

New, independent, multiple and online merchants will have their chance to shine too, with categories for each. The ‘Merchants’ section also has awards for  ‘best marketing campaign’ and ‘best showroom’ as well as a ‘rising star’ award for stand-out achievements at regional and national level.

The ‘People Awards’ meanwhile, are designed to recognise those who go above and beyond in the pursuit of excellence. The categories are: ‘Personality of the Year’, ‘Best Customer Service’ and ‘Best Sales Rep’, all sure to be hotly contested in an industry already known for its high standards.

Brands, merchants and individuals may enter into any of the relevant categories online, via the dedicated BMJ Industry Awards website.  They may also nominate other companies and individuals for a BMJ Industry Award using the same simple online form. Merchants are asked to support brands by nominating them for an award and vice versa. What’s more it’s free!

Event and publication manager Max Shannon asks: “Is there a merchant that you know does a fabulous job? Do you have any ‘hero brands’ that are a guaranteed hit? This is your chance to tell us by highlighting the brands, people, merchants and services of the future.”

Entries and nominations must meet the necessary criteria to be allowed through to the voting stage. A secure online voting process will then produce 5 finalists in each category, with the winners being those who have attracted the most votes overall.

The event

The BMJ Industry Awards will bring together the entire supply chain for an afternoon of celebration and networking. Commenting on the importance of attending the event, Fiona Russell- Horne says: “Networking with peers, competitors, suppliers and customers is what makes this industry go around, so the BMJ Industry Awards will offer a great opportunity to get together in convivial surroundings to meet and greet colleagues and friends both past and present and even make some new ones. The BMJ Industry Awards are about getting together to celebrate what who we are and what we have.”

Sponsorship opportunities

There are a number of exclusive sponsorship opportunities at the awards ceremony and gala dinner. “The event will be attended by hundreds of industry professionals and market leaders, making it the ideal platform from which to raise your company profile,” says Shannon.

The logos of sponsors will be used on all marketing material throughout the event’s promotional build up, with exposure to BMJ’s considerable print and digital subscribers.

A number of additional ‘on the night’ sponsorship opportunities are available to suit a range of budgets.

The BMJ Industry Awards has already captured the imagination of leading names, with Marsh Industries, BA Components and Marshalls and Stone Market signing up as category sponsors ahead of the official launch this month.
